The problem is that there are time and content constraints on an anime that limit and/or reduce how much of the source material can be put into an anime and still make it entertaining to viewers. I have learned that my preferred method of enjoying a story such as this one that is in multiple formats, (LN, Manga and anime), is to watch the anime first, then read the manga for the additional info and background details that could not be put into an anime and then read the source novels to get everything that could not be put into either the manga or the anime.
This is not always possible, so I have learned to put the source material out of my mind so that I am able to enjoy the manga or the anime for what they are able to do and not complain about every little detail that could not be put into the anime. I admit that it took me many years to be able to train myself to do this since an anime, a movie or a TV series is usually made AFTER I have read the original source novels that they are based on. But I have finally learned to be able to do this and this allows me to enjoy each media format for what it CAN do and not feel disappointed for what it CAN NOT do.
it rarely is the best medium for novel adaptation IMHO. but it's a good gateway at least. i'm coming to this series from the anime, and i believe i'm not the only one.
