WTF MATE... I JUST FINISHED WATCHING all of the OVERLORD SPECIAL DRAMA CD... AND THEN I GO TO SKYWOOD AFTER 1 YEAR HAVEN'T VISITED THAT SITE AGAIN AFTER OVERLORD LICENSED BY FCKIN YP... AND THIS VERY VERY DAY, OVERLORD ANNOUNCED SEASON 2, AND TOMORROW IS MY BIRTHDAY... I FUCKIN LOVE OVERLORD.... I JUST REWATCHED 1 OUT OF EVERY 100++ ANIME... AND I ALREADY REWATCHED OVERLORD 3TIMES!!! I FCKIN HAPPY RIGHT NOW YEAHHH!!!!!
I'm surprised that there's going to be a 2nd season. Still, I submit that doing an anime of the lizardman arc is a bad idea. Wider audiences aren't going to go with lizards talking to each other all the time, especially when they haven't watched Season 1 or read the WN/LN. Fans might complain if they producers skipped that arc in favor of another, but from a business standpoint I think it's a wiser choice.
Not sure they are going to do it entirely from the lizardman's POV like the LN. And I doubt it will take more than 3 episodes, and if you eliminate a lot of the development of the Lizardmen characters (which really has not been carried over in subsequent volumes), you should be able to cover it in 2. The 2 vol Men in the Kingdom is a much more important arc in the development of the storyline. At 13 episodes I doubt S2 will be long enough to get the Magic Caster of Destroy (Vol 9) even if you ignore the side stories that are Vol 8.
Seeing as 3 volumes were covered I'd assume they'll keep the pace and we'll end up with the end of volume 6 when the 2nd season finishes. That'd mean volume 9 would be the final of the 3rd season which sounds kinda logical to me. Also volume 6 (The Men in the Kingdom Arc) looks like decent material for the final of season 2 to me.
Considering Maruyama want to publish around 20 books (I've read that somewhere, I don't know if it's true myself - it would looks like a right number to me though looking at we are right now with volume 11) I doubt we'll ever see an animation of all the volumes. That'd be around 7 seasons if the pace of the animation stays at it is...
Well it could be that the 2nd season will be 26 episodes rather than 13. That has happened in the past - Aria S1 was 13 episodes but S2 was 26. In that case they could ignore the V8 side stories and include V10 since the Empire's request for vassalization was largely due to the events of V9.
As much as it pains me I doubt that we'll get a 26 episode season (with all the animator shortages going on in Japan at the moment even AOT got a shortened 13 episode season).
In truth I'll be able to die a happy man if I manage to read all 20 books Maruyama wants to publish ^^
Compared to that anime, what was it called? suzumiya haruhi? Anything would be fine. Talking about the one where they animated several episodes in a row of the exact same day with minute if any differences and usually just at the end... Holy shit that was bad. Made me never want to touch anything related to that author again, although the issue was the ones animating it since they could've done a skip-over. It wasn't that bad in the other versions.
However, even if there is a lizardman arc, I don't think it'd exceed 3-4 episodes in length and we'd get some side stories during that time. It was horrible when reading the novel since it took so long and was so disconnected and unnecessary, but if it's an anime it won't take that long and will probably be interesting.
Details to be announced later (according to Crunchyroll). There is also supposed to be a Overlord/Youjo Senki joint event being held right now at Ikebukuro Marui 7F Event. Both LNs are published by Enterbrain and Studio Nut (Youjo Senki) was formed by former Madhouse animators so I wonder if Overlord S2 will be done by Madhouse or Studio Nut or maybe a collaboration between the two.
I've been trying to figure out what Madhouse's schedule for 2017 is (assuming they will animate S2) and it's been tricky. Anidb shows nothing scheduled by Madhouse for the Spring, summer of fall of 2017, but I found out that they will release S2 of One Punch Man sometime this year with speculation being October as that would be the 2nd anniversary of the start of S1. However the announcement that a S2 was green-lit came in Sep/Oct of 2016. That indicates a one year lead time from announcement to airing, which could mean that airing of S2 of Overlord may not be until Spring of 2018. Madhouse usually works on 2 TV series simultaneously, with one of them being a sports anime. Both of their current series (ACCA and All Out) just ended but their website has not been updated yet with any new series. In Jan 2018 Madhouse will be working on S2 of Cardcaptor Sakura (Clear Card Edition) 17 years after S1 finished. Add the fact that One Punch Man S2 is coming this year and Overlord S2 is confirmed, it looks like their reputation as a one-season anime production company might be ending. Of course, they may not be doing S2 of Overlord, as the Mahouka movie in June is being done by 8-bit, not Madhouse. And I really wonder what they will do this year. Other than One Punch Man S2, the only other known work is the NGNL movie to be released on 7/15.
It was mentioned at the end of Vol 11. However take it with a grain of salt. Most people think this is all part of Demiurge's master plan. Besides, Ainz is undead, so he has been dead since the beginning.
If you're curious about how ainz sama died... Read this instead https://m.fanfiction.net/s/12207050/1/ although its not real volume 12 just fanfiction created by Jokesonu it give you goosebumps that made you wonder that it was really originally volume 12 it covered all vol. 9-11 even the intermission even the adventure guild plan from the previous volume was mentioned... Although the author of the fanfiction was a monster among moster.. An unimaginable imagination :D that surpass the human realms
Even though the fanfiction was great story made by jokesonu... Let wait and see Maruyama Kugane sama plan for volume 12 everything according to Maruyama Kugane sama will.
Considering that it wasn't skipped in the manga, I doubt they will skip it in the anime. They were even mentioned briefly at the end of the last episode.

volume 12 translation not released yet?! Can't wait.. Im curious about ainz sama died...
ReplyDeleteNigel has already said that it would be on August.

DeleteLoved the fanfiction but he never ended it!!! I want MORE!!!!
DeleteMy biggest questions would be, until what volume would s2 cover? Would it still be a 12 episode season?
ReplyDeleteWell im not really sure but i have a feeling that the season 2 covered momon and jaldaboath fight in the kingdom.. Lizardmen sebas arc, jaldaboath..
Deletenah i'm pretty sure it'll be sebas-jaldabaoth, and probably sorcerous kingdom begining arc.
Deletelizard story will most likely skipped.
